A child of the forest fated to roam the world in search of answers of his past; noble-hearted, though eccentric at best. He often prefers to speak through the trees.... He invites you to travel with him; if you're not afraid to wander.
Preston Modigvarg
AFAB transmasculine, he/him only.
23, April 27th, 2001.
5'5", 110 lbs.
Chaotic Good; adaptable, righteous, & compassionate.... beware the Knightly Huntsman, his honeyed words hide his deceit and distrust of the world.
A tender of the Yggdrasil, it's Preston's duty to observe the realms and trim the branches of the World Tree. For the fruits that grow too rotten, and for the realms that grow too wild - they are severed, cast out into the beyond to roam aimlessly.
Raised by Freyja, his main talents lie in the plays of Fate, holding a special bond with the Norns. While he has no say in what comes to pass, his talents, rather, lie in the past - connecting with those who have passed and times long gone. When not tending to his duties, he wanders the realms as a sellsword, ever curious about the worlds he observes and the people within them. He can sometimes be seen taking an alternate form, frequently depicted as a silvery-gray elk with a skull for a head and wide-branched antlers. As is expected of his duties, Preston oversees many worlds that bear a World Tree. All World Trees connect to the Yggdrasil, even if they don't seem like it. To these worlds that do bear a healthy Tree of Life, it is Preston's role as a tree-tender to ensure their healthy growth, as well as the state of the world they support.
Sometimes, worlds grow too awry, or the life they support betrays the Tree - it becomes Preston's duty to sever the world before it endangers the Yggdrasil. This has led to the downfall of many worlds; though not inherently the cause of their corruption, it's his severance that causes a chain of events commonly compared to Ragnarok - an end, and a new beginning. If you'd like to read more about what realms fall under Preston's jurisdiction, see here.Preston retains a few forms as a spirit of nature. There's his human form, a lesser nymph form, a leshen form, and his strongest form, the Wyrdwalker. It's more or less a spectrum between human and beast. Any forms beyond his human form are mostly purposed for defending sacred grounds, or shepherding wildlife into sanctuaries and safe havens. His human form, though adorning antlers and pointy elf-ears, is mainly to appease fellow humans and other sentient species. Being approachable and friendly is essential to keeping the peace of the forest, anyway.
One thing of note, however, the more beastial Preston's form becomes, the less control he has over his body - tapping into such powerful magic costs him his will, to a point where it's heavily debatable if his body is even physically alive or not. Thankfully, such forms have time limits; if he cannot find himself again to return to normalcy, the moon guides him back to humanity.Preston's true origin hails from the endless void of Ginnungagap; though the body of Ymir still lays there, a final resting place for the ancestor of all giants, a babe was born from the corpse of the primordial being - through defiance of Fate itself, this child sought out by the Norns. Wearily, old soldiers tread the endless ground for this child, carried back to the Yggdrasil and raised as a Vanir - only told of her existence, not her purpose.
Of course, Ljotutamr - or Preston, as he calls himself - knows he is not Vanir, not truly. However, to him.. his birth is unknown. His ancestry, lost.due to originating in the genshin verse, his original storyline can be found here.i'd really prefer if you followed his current verseless storyline, though i understand that having roleplayed him for almost 4 years without much change can be difficult to adjust to.
are you interested in establishing a dynamic with preston?only developed relationships will be placed here.
TBA.will eventually insert some folk here, but for now, this space is vacant.
Leyline's Gift —
The first ability of Preston's is a unique connection with the roots of the earth, by means of descendance. Not truly worthy of wielding it in its full potential yet, he opts for other means of utilizing such an intricate aspect - sacrifice. His own blood is offered by a siphon embedded in his blade, and in exchange, the earth does his bidding. A more traditional means of practice, but a potent one.
(...He's just really good at tracking. And sneaking.)
